Who’s ComingLaBLove 2010:
LaB’s 3rd anniversary weekend celebration!
LaB, Philadelphia’s Lindy and blues dance headquarters, is three years old. To celebrate, we’re throwing a birthday party!
Friday, January 29th - Sunday, January 31th
Due to the overwhelming numbers of registrations we've received over the last few weeks, we've had to close registration for the weekend. There will be no a la carte class purchases, so unless you have registered for the entire weekend, you cannot take any of the classes. The dances are still open for people to pay at the door. We will be opening up two floors for the dancing on Friday and Saturday night main dances, so we should have enough space for everyone who plans to come. We suggest that if you do not have a full registration pass, you should still come at the beginning of the dances to guarantee your entry.

We've got a jam-packed weekend including two days of Lindy and blues workshops with Denver’s Joe Demers & Nelle Hatley, at least two nights of social dancing to live swing and blues from Gordon Webster, and the opportunity to witness history being made as Gordon records his first live album, right here at LaBLove!!!
Joe Demers & Nelle Hatley (Denver, CO) are known for being incredibly versatile dancers ranging from modern jazz to vintage blues to performance Lindy hop. They possess an aesthetic quality that flourishes as a dance couple. They continually train, travel, and teach worldwide, study swing dance history and clips, choreograph, perform, and innovate new dance movements and techniques. They pride themselves with basing their dancing on original styles while continually striving for new ideas.
Joe and Nelle will be teaching four blues classes and four lindy classes over the course of the weekend. All classes will be at the intermediate level. They'll be covering a whole range of topics:
- In blues--
- acceleration and dynamics
- frame matching
- musicality
- level and tempo changes
- using counter balance
- In Lindy--
- rhythm and timing
- partnered charleston
- fast dancing
- lead & follow theories
Gordon Webster (New York, NY) is a jazz pianist (and Lindy hopper) whose albums and live performances never fail to get us on our feet. At LaBLove, he'll be recording his first live album, joined by a full band including vocalist Brianna Thomas and singer/trumpe player Jesse Selengut. Because he is so inspired and energized by live dancers, and by the "good vibes" in the Philly dance scene, Gordon arranged to record this album while playing at LaBLove!
